About Dr. Helfgott

David A. Helfgott received his doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) from Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at Yeshiva University. His areas of focus included psychodynamic psychotherapy and supervision, traumatic brain injury and neuropsychological assessment, public and community mental health for serious and persistent mental illness, smoking cessation, and assessment and treatment for Alzheimer’s Dementia and caregiver burden.

Dr. Helfgott was a fellow in the Ferkauf Older Adult Program, federally funded by the US Department of Health and Human Services, where he received specialized training in geropsychology and psychology in primary care settings. Dr. Helfgott’s doctoral dissertation further refined his knowledge in the areas of dementia caregiver burden, depression and grief.

Dr. Helfgott has worked at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in the Bronx and Interfaith Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. He also worked with children and adolescents at East Orange General Hospital in New Jersey before turning to full time private practice.

Dr. Helfgott is licensed by the State of New York (#17519) and the State of New Jersey (#4636). He is a member of the American Psychological Association and the New Jersey Psychological Association.
